A man who would typically considered to be the ‘good guy with a gun,’ a Texas cop, shot his girlfriend in the back in what has so far been determined to be an ‘accidental’ shooting.
We can’t imagine why an officer with the police department at Sam Houston State University would be cleaning a loaded weapon, or why the gun would be aiming at his girlfriend’s back but that’s what happened, apparently.
Authorities said no criminal charges will be filed in the weekend shooting of the woman in Huntsville, according to the Associated Press.
The shooting happened Saturday afternoon as SHSU Officer William Weathersby was cleaning his non-issued gun, according to Department of Public Safety Trooper Erik Burse.
The Associated Press reports:
Burse says while Weathersby was reassembling his gun, it went off and struck his girlfriend, 23-year-old Rebecca Keefe, in the back. She was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital and is expected to live.
“She is expected to live, which is good news. We have Texas Rangers in Houston investigating, speaking with the victim,” Trooper Erik Burse with the Texas Department of Public Safety said after the shooting, according to Winning Democrats. “In an investigation, you don’t want to rush things. You certainly want to take all the information that you have and try to piece it together.”
Weathersby has been on the force for two years and serves as a patrol officer.
There’s no telling what the officer’s girlfriend feels about no charges being filed against the cop since she has a bullet in her back because her boyfriend disregarded the very basics in gun safety. Treat a firearm as if it’s loaded at all times and never aim it at anything you don’t want destroyed. If you’re a responsible gun owner, then that should have already been drilled into you head.
Wouldn’t you hate to be next to this guy at the target range? DUCK!
Worst boyfriend ever.
