Donald Trump is mad. Angry mad, though. Not crazy mad. That’s not to say he isn’t crazy mad, but in this instance he’s specifically angry mad. The usually unflappable Donald has dropped his normally calm and reserved demeanour to make some very heated statements about the situation surrounding Corey Lewandowski and the battery charges he’s facing for grabbing and bruising Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields as she attempted to ask Trump a few questions.
Trump rang in to TODAY to discuss the incident, where he either didn’t hear, didn’t understand or just didn’t care about the questions hosts Matt and Savannah were trying to ask, instead choosing to go on a tirade. They say attack is the best form of defense and the Trump party certainly mounts a pretty strong defense. First, the campaign manager physically attacks a reporter, then Trump himself verbally attacks anybody who would question the ethics or legality of those actions. Trump barely has time to breathe as he defends the actions of Lewandowski, while at the same time calling Michelle Fields a liar.
Even when faced with video evidence disputing his version of events, Trump still maintains that he is a bastion of truth and justice fighting for the rights of his innocent campaign manager who might potentially lose his job because of the lies of some attention seeking journalist. It takes a certain type of person to put up so much bravado in the face of overwhelming video evidence, and unfortunately for the American people, Trump is that sort of person:
‘She’s got no evidence … [Fields] changed her tune a lot..She made up the story.’
All nonsense. In fact, she does have evidence in the aforementioned video. Fields has not changed her story at all since the incident, and the incident definitely happened (again, see video). It’s actually Trump’s story that has changed several times. First he denied it happened at all, telling CNN:
‘I heard that nothing happened. You know, we’re surrounded by Secret Service. We have many Secret Service. You see some of them here. When we left, I spoke to them. Nothing happened. This was, in my opinion, made up…’
Then he denied that there was ever any video with a statement from spokesperson Hope Hicks:

And then he tried to make it seem like he was in danger when the video surfaced, clearly showing Lewandowski grabbing Fields by telling Good Morning America:
‘Well, she brushed me, She grabbed my arm. You see that? You see me trying to get her hand off my arm. I’m trying to flick her hand off my arm..She shouldn’t have been grabbing me if you want to be technical. Maybe I should file charges against her because she touched my arm also..She had a pen in her hand and that could have been a knife, even a pen, it’s dangerous’
So, Mr. Trump, somebody has been telling porky pies but it doesn’t seem to be Michelle Fields; it is, in fact, you. Is this the sort of decorum with which the next President of the United States should act? Let’s make sure it isn’t.
