On Friday, Colin Kaepernick broke the internet with his dramatic anthem protest. When NFL Media interviewed him the next day, the big news outlets swooped in like vultures to devour and cover it 24/7.
But it turns out that the mainstream media was very selective in their coverage.
For example, CNN was happy to cover the part where Colin Kaepernick declared:
‘I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.’
Of course, they were. These kinds of controversial statements boost their ratings sky high. And then there’s the part of Colin Kaepernick’s interview we don’t see. For mysterious reasons, the part where the protester declares that a big part of the problem lies with our two major presidential candidates is nowhere to be found on CNN, ABC, NBC, or CBS.
After that part where Colin Kaepernick assails racism in America but conveniently mentions no actual racists, he ripped into both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.
‘I think the two presidential candidates that we currently have also represent the issue that we have in this country right now. You have Hillary, who’s called black teens or black kids super predators. You have Donald Trump who’s openly racist. I mean, we have a presidential candidate who’s deleted emails and done things illegally and is a presidential candidate. That doesn’t make sense to me because if that was any other person, you’d be in prison. So, what is this country really standing for?
A YouTuber who goes by the handle HornetsNation Charlotte captured the video clip and posted it online. It is unclear whether he salvaged it from CNN’s cutting room floor or caught it during a brief moment on the air.
The Federalist, a right-wing website, ran the video but started the video several seconds in so you only hear the part about Hillary Clinton but not Donald Trump. Very interesting.
