Ever a class act, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama left all of those who mourn his leaving and face a future with nervousness a beautiful video-taped message. They both explained what is next for Democrats. All the goodness that the president brought to the country over the past eight years will not be lost.
During his last press conference, President Obama told the American people that he has hope for the future. He told people that he believes in them and their ability to still make a difference. It was his way of reassuring us, saying, “Don’t worry. I have your back.”
In their last video as president and first lady, the Obamas thanked the citizens of the U.S. Then they explained what is in their immediate future. They are going to get some sleep!
Mrs. Obama was reassuring, too. In the video on the Obama Foundation page, she said that they were going to:
‘Take a little time with the family and just be still for a little bit. So we are not going to be online as much as you’re used to seeing us.’
After eight years of sleep deprivation, they certainly deserve it. But then President Obama continued on the Obama Foundation video to explain what is next for not only them, but us, too:
‘We want you to invite you to help us on one of the many projects we’re excited to be working on when we get back.’
Then the president gave people the link to their new Foundation website:
‘Check out this website for our future presidential center, but it will have projects all over the city, the country, and the world.’
President 44 then gave us something to keep us involved in our future – with them:
‘More than a library or a museum, It will be a living working center for citizenship…Tell us what you want it to be and tell us what’s on your mind.’
Then Mrs. Obama joined in:
‘Send us you hopes, your beliefs about what we can achieve together.’
The president continued:
‘It’s going to take all of you and your ideas to make this a reality…True democracy is project that is much bigger than any one of us. It’s bigger than any one person, any one president, any one government. It’s a job for all of us.
‘The work of perfecting our union is never finished…Thank you, and we will see all of you soon again.’
Thank you President Obama and First Lady Obama.
