Is Donald Trump’s “chief strategist” completely unbalanced?
Steve Bannon began picking fights the president’s son-in-law and first daughter Ivanka Trump’s husband, Jared Kushner. When push comes to shove, surely Bannon realizes he would lose. That is why people are questioning his sanity.
Joe Scarborough, host of MSNBC Morning Joe, commented:
‘They had to back down. Steve Bannon is an island unto himself in the White House. Any allies he may have had have scattered.’
Bannon generated a mass of coverage this week, including reports of him taking on the president’s senior advisor and son-in-law. Frustrated with the ongoing war between two of his top people, Trump sent Chief Of Staff Reince Priebus into a room to mediate between Bannon and Kushner with the president’s message, according to CNN:
‘Work it out!’
Reports of a White House shakeup do not look good for Bannon, especially with people questioning how balanced he is. Last week, Trump removed his strategist from his post on the National Security Council with a flimsy excuse that the president placed him there to watch the former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn. Of course, Flynn has been gone over six weeks ago.
The New York Magazine reported that Bannon threatened to quit:
‘If my talents aren’t needed here, I can take them somewhere else.’
Scarborough said that people just do not get what is going on with Bannon:
‘What White House insiders cannot come to grips with, and I talked to three of the presidents’ top people yesterday, they do not understand what happened to Steve Bannon. Why he decided to start attacking the president’s family. The word I heard from all three was ‘he just snapped.’
Bannon and Kushner have completely different philosophies. Last week, the strategist called Ivanka Trump’s husband a slur, “You’re a Democrat” which he is, but Bannon was referring to the son-in-law’s centrist attitude. The man credited by some of winning Trump the election is a pure nationalist, committed to tearing down the government.
According to the Daily Beast, Bannon also called Kushner a “globalist” and a “cuck,” which is a bastardization of “cuckold” and “conservative.”
The president is very unhappy with the media coverage of his inner circle battle. NBC’s Saturday Night Live skits depict Bannon as the real president and Trump at the kiddie president who follows his orders.
Trump holds Bannon responsible for the failed TrumpCare/RyanCare [American Health Care Act] meant to replace ObamaCare [Affordable Care Act/ACA]. The president also blames his strategist for failing to implement his duel travel bans.
Axios reported Saturday that Kushner and Ivanka Trump are enthusiastic about “[A more] open process driven by the interests of the president, not ideology.”
