Al Franken Responds To Trump’s Cuts On The Elderly In The Sweetest Way (IMAGES)

It often is glaringly obvious how little Republicans care about people in lower classes. The fact that Republicans want to do away with various social safety nets, for example the Meals on Wheels program, is a true testament to how little they understand that some people depend on programs such as these. In a recent statement by White House Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney he claimed that the Meals on Wheels program weren’t showing any results.

Minnesota Senator Al Franken on the other hand has been an avid supporter of Meals on Wheels for quite some time. Senator Franken even took the time out of his busy schedule to go out and personally deliver meals to those who truly needed them, the elderly of Minnesota.

This isn’t the first time that Sen. Franken has done something like this; being sure to highlight that there is a lot of good work being done by people everywhere despite what some Republicans may think.  There are many volunteers in communities everywhere that are doing their part to make the lives of the senior members of various communities more comfortable.

Meals on Wheels is a program that provides and delivers meals to individuals who are unable to purchase or prepare their own meals. The name is due to the fact that many times these meals are home delivered through certain programs. A lot of elderly people who benefit from this meal program are house bound, and many of those who volunteer are elderly themselves, though able bodied, and looking to help make the lives of those who aren’t just the slightest bit easier.

It is shown through research that home delivered meal programs help to improve the diet of those who receive them, and improve quality of life among recipients. The programs also reduce government expenditures by reducing the need for those who receive meals from Meals on Wheels to use hospitals or nursing homes.

Just judging by what Meals on Wheels does for elderly in the community to help them feel more independent, the results are exactly what they should be.
