Republican Senator Turns On W.H. – Says Trump Golfs Way Too Much (TWEETS)

-

CNN reports that at a recent town hall, Republican senator Joni Ernst voiced concerns regarding Donald Trump’s weekend trips to Florida.

Her comments were made at an Iowa town hall where a voter mentioned the president’s frequent trips to his Florida resort.

‘That’s what we have the White House for, we would love to see more of those State Department visits in Washington, DC. I think it’s smart that he does business in Washington DC, so I’ve had those same concerns myself.’

During the town hall, Ernst also said:

‘I have not spoken to him about the Florida issue yet, but that is something I think that has been bothering not just me, but some other members of our caucus. So I think that is going to be a topic of discussion that we have when we get back to Washington.’

However, despite the GOP’s apparent frustration with Trump’s frequent trips, Sean Spicer has said that the president does not intend to change his travel plans. Some speculate that Trump’s trips to Florida will end in May due to the changing weather though some believe that he will opt to travel to Trump Tower in New York. That being said, Barron and Melania are expected to move into the White House this summer so he may have no need to visit his penthouse.

So far, Trump has spent seven weekends at his Mar-a-Lago resort. Each trip is estimated to cost about $3 million. As of the 10th, Trump had spent 21 days at his resort with the total cost of his trips totaling about $21 million.

Over the course of his eight years in office, President Obama spent about $97 million on travel expenses. If Trump continues on his current course, he will outpace Obama within about a year.

Prior to entering politics, Trump frequently criticized President Obama for his travel expenses.
