It’s going down, down, down…
A new poll released Friday found President Donald Trump’s approval rating slumped to a record low amidst increasing concerns regarding his ability to lead the country. Now, more Americans disapprove of Trump’s job performance than approve of it.
53 percent of registered voters disapprove of Trump’s leadership, and 41 percent approve, according to a Morning Consult/POLITICO survey released Friday. About 2 in 5 registered voters say they strongly disapproved of Trump.
The survey comes at the heels of two paramount reports from The Washington Post and the New York Times, that sent the Trump administration into a downward spiral. The reports exposed the Trump administration’s demanding of former FBI Director James Comey to end his investigation into former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, as well as President Trump’s discussing of classified information with a pair of Russian officials.
50 percent of those polled said that Comey’s request that Comey shut down the investigation into Flynn’s business ties to Russia was inappropriate, with just 28 percent who said they felt it was appropriate. Break that down along party lines, and 77 percent of Democrats and 49 percent of independents said it was inappropriate, while 54 percent of Republicans thought it was appropriate.
The poll found that 77 percent of those polled view Trump as arrogant, while just 17 percent do not.
To make matters worse, many Americans have concerns about Trump’s ability to serve as President of the United States. 50 percent said they don’t think he’s fit to serve, compared to just 40 percent who consider him capable of carrying out his duties. To make matters even worse, 54 percent said he lacks suitable judgement for a president, compared to just 34 percent who believe his judgement is fine.
On Thursday, Trump denounced the appointment of a special counsel, former FBI Director Robert Mueller, to conduct a probe into his campaign’s alleged ties to Russia. The Trump administration seemingly faces one scandal after another. Currently, the federal investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election seem to be consuming the entire administration.
On Twitter Thursday morning, Trump called the investigation a “witch hunt.”
This is the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history!

The survey was conducted online from May 16-18 among 1,970 registered voters. It has a margin of error of +/- 2 percent.
