JUST IN: The Vatican Issues Damning Warning Of Trump’s Continued Leadership

-

It’s no secret that Pope Francis is no fan of President Donald Trump.

The president’s decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris climate agreement communicated his blatant disregard for the planet, and the Vatican isn’t about to stand by and watch the world go up in flames.

In a stark warning issued Friday, Bishop Marcelo Sanchez Sorondo, head of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, issued a statement to Reuters detailing Pope Francis’ concern for Trump’s apparent disregard for the wellbeing of the planet. He said any harm to the environment will be like a “boomerang that will come back … especially to poor people.”

Speaking to Reuters in a phone interview, Sanchez Sorondo said:

‘This is to go back to the past and not to see the future.’

He went on to call the United States government’s decision to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement “a disaster for this country and also for the world.”

Citing a need to create jobs in the United States fossil fuel industry, President Trump withdrew the U.S. from the Paris climate agreement on June 1.

During a speech from the Rose Garden, Trump said the agreement imposed unfair environmental standards on American businesses and workers, adding:

‘I was elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris.’

The agreement, signed by 195 nations worldwide, was intended to unite nations around the globe together in the fight against climate change and fight ever-increasing global temperatures.

Sanchez Sorondo is in Oslo, Norway Monday for a meeting of faith leaders to discuss how to protect tropical rainforests. He believes protecting forests fits into religious traditions.

‘This was an idea of the Bible but also an idea of the Greeks and all civilizations.’

As one Twitter user pointed out, it’s a bad sign when the Vatican cares more about the environment than the President of the United States.

‘It’s sad when even the Vatican is saying Trump is bringing the US back to the past with the coal push and ditching the Paris climate accord’

‘Never thought this would happen… when the Vatican supports science more than the President of the United States.’

‘You know you’re regressive when the Vatican says you’re dragging the world into the past.’
