Trump Signed Off On Don Jr.’s Blatant Lie To N.Y. Times About Russian Meeting

-

It seems as though President Trump really thinks that the controversy surrounding him, his administration, and Russia is just going to blow over. His hopes may be shattered as this Russia scandal seems to be the story that never ends.

After the president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., was discovered to have met with a Kremlin-based lawyer, he tried to lie his way out of the meeting, claiming the the meeting was held simply in order to discuss adoption laws. Upon being caught in his lies, Trump Jr. publicly released copies of his emails with Rob Goldstone that incriminated him and his father even farther. The emails state that the information against Clinton was to be given as “part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump.”

According to people familiar with the situation, a group of President Trump’s advisers gathered together in order to put together a statement for the president’s son to give to The New York Times as an explanation of why he met with a lawyer that was connected to the Russian government. The final draft of the statement that the president signed off on for Donald Trump Jr. had so many missing pieces that it was followed by days of further statements.

It all came to a head on Tuesday, when Trump Jr. dropped the email bombshell, showing the world that, like father like son, both Trumps are liars.

Within the emails, which Trump Jr. only released after catching wind that The Times also had copies that they planned to publish, completely undercut President Trump’s stream of paper thin defenses within the Russia inquiry. Trump has done nothing but dismiss the suspicions of many regarding himself and Russia as “fake news,” or a big elaborate hoax. Trump Jr. has similar comments to his father’s when it comes to talking about Russia, previously stating that he thinks the talk of their collusion is “so phony.”

The emails seem to show that the president’s son was more than willing – he was downright giddy – when accepting help with the Trump campaign, even though he knew that help was coming from the Russian government. “I love it,” he wrote in his emails.
