President Trump is a man obsessed with crowd sizes and not very obsessed with the truth. He has been in attendance at the U.S. Women’s Open since last Friday, when he returned from a trip to Paris. The golfing tournament is being held at his private golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, so he has an added incentive to attend the event, beyond just his enjoyment of golf.
There has been an unsurprising backlash against the U.S. Women’s Open being held at a venue that will, ultimately, make Donald Trump money. Remember, Trump has not divested from his businesses, he’s simply ceded executive control of them to his two adult sons. This means that his repetitive promotion of the event on Twitter literally makes him money.
He tweeted from the event on Friday, seeming to make a completely illogical connection between the crowds at the event and the upward swinging stock market. As if he insisted on not even acknowledging the fact that the people at the Open were happy about the golf, he wrote:
‘Just got to the
#USWomensOpen in Bedminster, New Jersey. People are really happy with record high stock market — up over 17% since election!’

His ridiculousness got even more flagrant on Sunday morning. Ahead of another visit to the tournament, Trump wrote the following on Twitter:
‘Thank you to all of the supporters, who far out-numbered the protesters, yesterday at the Women’s U.S. Open. Very cool!’

Here we go with this nonsense again.
Showing himself yet again to be completely pathologically obsessed with the public’s opinion of him, the president has asserted that supporters of his “far out-numbered” the protesters at the U.S. Women’s Open on Saturday.
Is he correct?
‘Trump was again seen at the course Saturday after being spotted there Friday, viewing the festivities from a glass-encased viewing area… Demonstrators were kept at least three miles from the course. They were met by a roughly equal number of Trump supporters.’
Perhaps he is taking everyone who shook his hand as a supporter? It wouldn’t be surprising.
The LPGA and USGA have both faced vehement calls to make amends for hosting this year’s U.S. Women’s Open at the private golf club of a man who has made the disgusting comments and exhibited the disgusting behavior that Trump has. Even four U.S. Senators have, at various times in the past year, spoken out against the event being held at Trump’s Bedminister golf club.
