Trump Live Tweets From U.S. Women’s Open & Embarrasses Himself Instantly

It’s no secret that Donald Trump is a big fan of golf. He is such a big fan of golf that on his personal Twitter account, @realDonaldTrump, which has been confirmed by the White House as a source of official statements from the president, he has posted more about golf in recent days than anything else.

Trump wrote on Twitter early this Sunday evening:

‘I am at the @USGA #USWomensOpen. An amateur player is co-leading for the first time in many decades – very exciting!’

What kind of state are we in when the president is issuing official statements about golfing tournaments and not about such important things as LGBT pride month? The Trump White House literally never issued any public statement acknowledging Pride Month, which was in June and has been around for a couple decades.

The occasion for Trump’s obsessive golf-tweeting is the U.S. Women’s Open being held at his private golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey. Besides the days that he has been in attendance at this tournament, Trump has spent a significant amount of time — almost two weeks — at his Bedminster golf club. He’s spent even more time at golf courses in general, having racked up 40 of his 177 days in office as of mid-July at a golf course, according to a tracker from NBC News.

He has spent a total of 54 of his first 177 days in office at Trump properties, including, besides his golf courses, Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C., and his Mar-A-Lago resort in Florida.

Trump’s presence at the U.S. Women’s Open is controversial, but he doesn’t care. Even still, it’s worth noting that him choosing to attend all of the last three days of the tournament has driven media attention away from the actual sport going on and onto him — just how he likes it.

Adding insult to injury is the fact that Trump is making money from all of this, since it’s being held at his private golf club. We have truly entered the era of the rich, reality star, wealth obsessed president.

Twitter, of course, had a lot to say about the president of the United States spending all this time tweeting to promote a golf tournament that makes him money. Check it out below.
