Melania Trump Issues Scathing Statement On Alt-Right Protestors Before Donald Says A Word

This Saturday, what can only be described as a domestic terrorist gathering rocked Charlottesville, Virginia, as white supremacists descended en masse on the city for a gathering they called “Unite The Right.” The city became a target for white nationalists in protest of the planned removal of statues honoring Confederate war icons including Gen. Robert E. Lee.

The events have stretched over a period of at least a couple days at this point, with the unsurprising left wing protest presence being one more spark for the whole thing to turn violent. A far right rally was set to begin in the city at noon on Saturday, but before it could even “officially” start, a state of emergency was declared by Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe.

That does not mean that violence has not taken place anyway, and police have been arresting those who have refused to vacate the area that the rally was set to take place at.

First Lady Melania Trump has now spoken out about the violence that has rocked the city over the past day or so, writing on Twitter:

‘Our country encourages freedom of speech, but let’s communicate w/o hate in our hearts. No good comes from violence.’

Her statement might be nice, but it rings hollow in face of the thrust of her husband’s administration.

The president waited almost an hour after Melania finally responded to himself finally say something on Twitter about what’s been going on. He is currently on a seventeen day vacation at his Bedminster, New Jersey golf club, and although he’d no doubt be tweeting obsessively about the events if the perpetrators of the violence were non-whites, he was very slow to comment on the incidents.

Remember — he attracted white nationalist support while running for president, and he was subsequently hesitant at first to renounce the KKK. He’s since appointed noted white nationalists like Steve Bannon and Stephen Miller to key positions in his administration.
