JUST IN: Ted Cruz Releases Dumbest Excuse Ever For His ‘Porn Tweet’

-

Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is finally more popular than Donald Trump on social media. Unfortunately for him, his newfound fame is not for anything he should be proud of.

Cruz made headlines on Tuesday morning after it was discovered that he’d “liked” a pornographic video on Twitter late Monday night.

The “like” was undone shortly after it first happened, but Cruz’s staff wasn’t able to take care of it before a number of Twitter users got screenshots of the action.

Cruz’s senior communications adviser, Catherine Frazier, tweeted about the “like” being undone shortly after it happened.

While Frazier’s tweet implied that Cruz’s account had been hacked, when Cruz himself finally responded to news about the video, POLITICO reports, he chalked it up to a “staffing issue.”

‘There are a number of people on the team who have access on the account. It appears that someone inadvertently hit the like button. When we discovered the post, which was I guess an hour or two later, we pulled it down. It was a staffing issue. And it was inadvertent, it was a mistake. It was not a deliberate act. We’re dealing with it internally, but it was a mistake. It was not malicious.’

Cruz didn’t say anything about whether or not the person responsible for liking the tweet will be fired or disciplined. However, according to NBC’s Frank Thorp, he did joke that an incident like this would have been helpful during last year’s Indiana primary elections.

Shortly after Cruz made these comments, CNN’s Chris Cillizza argued that it would have been better for the senator to release a statement making it clear that he was not the one who liked the video.

‘The only thing anyone wants to know in the wake of something like this happening is whether or not Cruz had ANYTHING to do with it. That’s it. Literally, nothing else.
‘Which is why Cruz needed to — and still needs to — issue a statement ASAP saying: “I had nothing to do with this and was not aware it had even been posted until it was brought to my attention.”‘

Thanks to his and his staff’s poor handling of the incident, Cruz is going to have a hard time living this one down. He’s currently trending on Twitter, and nearly 500,000 people have posted about him and his Monday night antics.
