President Trump has proven repeatedly that he does not take criticism well, but he revealed just how thin his skin really is on Saturday morning when he attacked San Juan’s mayor, Carmen Yulín Cruz, after she begged him to do more to help the people of Puerto Rico as they struggle to recover from the effects of Hurricane Maria.
Trump first claimed that Cruz had been directed by Democrats and the “fake news media” to be “nasty” to him.
‘The Mayor of San Juan, who was very complimentary only a few days ago, has now been told by the Democrats that you must be nasty to Trump. Such poor leadership ability by the Mayor of San Juan, and others in Puerto Rico, who are not able to get their workers to help. They want everything to be done for them when it should be a community effort. 10,000 Federal workers now on Island doing a fantastic job. The military and first responders, despite no electric, roads, phones etc., have done an amazing job. Puerto Rico was totally destroyed.’
He then continued to tweet about the relief efforts — while also attacking the media — throughout the morning.
After taking a bit of a break, he posted another paranoid message about collusion between the press and Democrats a few hours later on Saturday:
‘Despite the Fake News Media in conjunction with the Dems, an amazing job is being done in Puerto Rico. Great people!’
Trump’s followers did not respond well to his latest message, and they made it clear that they hadn’t forgotten his meltdown from earlier in the day:
