The president has no idea what he is doing when it comes to foreign policy, and he does not appear to care to find out. He does things his way or no way, basically — no matter what the cost.
The issue of the North Korean nuclear arsenal continues to unfold as weeks go by, and President Trump has taken a very clear stance in response to this threat — war is the only viable answer.
In a belligerent Saturday tweetstorm, the president reiterated this stance, writing:
‘Presidents and their administrations have been talking to North Korea for 25 years, agreements made and massive amounts of money paid hasn’t worked, agreements violated before the ink was dry, makings fools of U.S. negotiators. Sorry, but only one thing will work!’
He acts as though saying sorry on Twitter will make amends for the nuclear war he’s poised to spark with his belligerence.
The fact of the matter remains that if North Korea does go to war with any combination of Western countries, including the United States, millions of people will suddenly find their lives in danger. Those who would be in danger include the millions of innocent North Korean citizens and the people of South Korea and Japan, besides any Americans who go to the area in combat and any Americans who are within range of the dictatorship’s intercontinental ballistic missiles.
The president’s continued threats against the North Koreans are not helping. His tweets are especially ominous considering his recent remark that a photo op with military leadership was the “calm before the storm.”
