Sally Yates Re-Emerges As Trump’s Worst Nightmare With Saturday AM Bombshell

Donald Trump is a wannabe dictator who doesn’t understand how this country works. For someone who loves to invoke “American traditions and values” when whipping up anti-immigrant sentiment, he sure demonstrates a supreme lack of understanding of those values.

Take, for example, Trump’s recent statements on the Department of Justice. This week, he said “The saddest thing is, because I’m the president of the United States, I am not supposed to be involved in the Justice Department. I am not supposed to be involved in the FBI. I’m not supposed to be doing the kind of things that I would love to be doing and I’m very frustrated by it.”

He was expressing his desire to have the Department of Justice investigate his political opponents. “The kind of things that I would love to be doing” is code for “investigating Hillary Clinton to keep attention off me.” Using the justice system to target political opponents is a classic dictator move. The fact that Donald Trump either doesn’t understand what he’s suggesting or doesn’t care is deeply troubling, and former Acting Attorney General Sally Yates just took him to task for it on twitter.

Here’s the tweet she posted:

Respect our democracy. Respect your job. Respect our laws and regulations. It’s hard to know where to start, because Trump doesn’t respect anything. He didn’t stop with those comments, either; on Friday, he followed up with a tweet storm demanding action. Here’s more from Business Insider:

‘Trump’s interactions with the Justice Department have come under scrutiny, particularly as they relate to his May firing of the FBI director, James Comey, which led to Mueller’s appointment. Comey was overseeing the FBI’s investigation into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russian officials in the 2016 presidential election, an investigation that is now folded into the special counsel’s Russia-related investigation.

‘Trump continued to lambaste the Justice Department in a series of Friday-morning tweets, saying “everybody is asking” why it was not investigating Clinton and the Democrats.

‘”At some point the Justice Department, and the FBI, must do what is right and proper,” he tweeted. “The American public deserves it!”

‘Speaking with reporters outside the White House ahead of his lengthy trip to Asia, Trump said he was “really not involved” with the Justice Department, adding that he would “like to let it run itself.”

‘”But honestly, they should be looking at the Democrats,” he said, adding, “A lot of people are disappointed in the Justice Department, including me.”‘

He’s “disappointed” because the criminals he’s worked with are getting arrested, and Robert Mueller is closing in on him. Justice and reality are not points of interest to him – in Trump’s world, everything is malleable. He’s surrounded himself by yes-men for so long that he truly seems unable to conceive of a reality outside of his limited bubble.

The post by Sally Yates immediately resulted in an outpouring of support, and more than a few calls for her to run for office:

It seems relatively unlikely that Donald Trump will listen to reason. In fact, it seems safe to presume that as the Trump-Russia investigation continues, Trump’s statements and tweets will get more and more erratic. Republicans will continue to enable him as long as they feel there’s a chance of passing welfare for the rich masquerading as “tax reform,” so for the visible future, we’re stuck with a wannabe dictator in the White House who believes the Justice Department should be a weapon against his political opponents.

In case you need some more Sally Yates to get your fix, here’s a video of her keynote speech in May at Harvard’s Class Day:
