According to Newsweek, more than 300,000 Central Americans and Haitians living in the U.S. under temporary protected status may now be deported, as Secretary of State Rex Tillerson issued a letter, which stated:
‘that dire conditions that once gripped Central America and Haiti no longer justify the protection of the program’s beneficiaries, who have been allowed to live and work in the U.S. for 20 years.’
The Hispanic Caucus tweeted this:
Now, in light of this announcement, President Trump is planning to bring over more workers from overseas this winter. According to The Palm Beach Post:
‘Trump won permission to hire 70 maids, cooks and servers at the Mar-a-Lago Club for the 2017-18 tourist season, according to newly released data from the U.S. Labor Department.’
In Palm Beach County itself, employers won approval to hire 2,179 workers for low-paying jobs this winter season. With all of the talk about immigrants taking Americans’ jobs, employers actually say they can’t find the workers they need. According to The Post:
‘Trump isn’t alone in looking overseas for low-wage workers through the federal government’s H-2B visa program. Nationwide, thousands of employers won permission to hire nearly 134,000 workers for 2017-18, up from 119,000 for 2016-17.’
While Trump has shamed manufacturing companies for moving to Mexico, he has long been bringing in foreign workers himself, probably in hopes of paying them low wages so he can turn a profit and keep his wallets filled.
About Mar-a-lago, Trump said:
‘It’s very, very hard to get people. Other hotels do the exact same thing.’
This proves Trump has no problem with immigration if it benefits him personally. Surprisingly though, the pay is rising at Mar-a-lago. Trump will be hiring 20 cooks at $13.34 an hour, 35 waiters and waitresses at $11.88 an hour, and 15 housekeepers at $10.33 an hour.
A non-profit job placement agency, CareerSource Palm Beach County, says that there are plenty of American citizens willing to work at Mar-a-lago. According to The Post, CareerSource spokesman Tom Veenstra said:
‘We currently have 5,136 qualified candidates in Palm Beach County for various hospitality positions listed in the Employ Florida state jobs database.’
According to Tom Veenstra, spokesman for CareerSource, despite the fact that the federal government requests dozens of H-2B Visas every year for Mar-a-lago, they rarely ask CareerSource for help with finding local employees. According to The Palm Beach Post:
‘In addition to the 70 visas at Mar-a-Lago, Trump also won permission to hire foreign workers at other properties that bear his name. He landed visas for 10 waiters and waitresses and six cooks at Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter, plus eight waiters and waitresses at Trump National Golf Club in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y. ‘
While Trump is busy hiring immigrant workers, he has no problem doing the cruel and heartless thing of deporting a 10-year old disabled immigrant girl from a hospital following emergency surgery. The New York Times tweeted about her response on Friday evening:
Some people shared their relief upon hearing this news:
People seem to have forgotten the basics of how to treat others and with every passing day, continue to veer off a moral compass that has gone awry.
