Donald Trump’s daughter and senior advisor, Ivanka, will not be accompanied by any high-level State Department officials when she heads to India next week to attend the Global Entrepreneurship Summit. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says he has no plans to send along a senior delegation to support Ivanka Trump at the summit, a high-profile event.
On Friday CNN reported that during her trip to India Ivanka Trump will go alone as a representative of the United States. In the past, both John Kerry, serving as Secretary of State, and President Barack Obama attended the summit..
The Secretary of State’s decision not to send a senior team member on the trip along with the president’s daughter is a bizarre decision, which comes amid tensions between Rex Tillerson and the White House, CNN reported.
According to one senior State Department official, it’s a strategic decision.
‘They [Tillerson and his staff] won’t send someone senior because they don’t want to bolster Ivnka. It’s now another rift between the White House and State at a time when Rex Tillerson doesn’t need any more problems with the president.’
The State Department official added that no one higher ranking than the deputy assistant is going to be allowed to participate in the summit.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited Ivanka Trump to attend the summit earlier this year. This year, the summit will focus on supporting female entrepreneurs.
Ivanka Trump’s clothing line is partially manufactured in India, and many people are drawing their own conclusions about the summit trip. Below are some of the top twitter reactions:
Ivanka Trump is going to India without a high level State Department delegation. Some Ivanka brand clothes are made in India. Wonder what her priorities will be.https://t.co/JZAlJqVqyF

This is hardly the first time Ivanka has made waves when it comes to being put in official positions she’d never be in if she weren’t a relative of the president of the United States. In July she briefly took her father’s seat during the G20 Summit.
Reactions to Trump taking the president’s seat were extreme.

Ivanka fills in for her dad beside Xi Jinping. To me, it feels banana-republicky for the US to be represented by an inexperienced daughter. https://t.co/lDDlyCeFp9

Why the hell is Ivanka Trump sitting in for daddy at G20 meetings?! What are her qualifications? Who voted for her?

Having Princess Ivanka represent US at G20 table a slap in face to other G20 leaders, other top admin officials, American people. Grotesque.

Reportedly, the White House is taking Tillerson’s decision not to send a high-ranking State Department member along with the president’s daughter as a snub.
