A seeming inability to ignore any public criticism whatsoever, no matter how ridiculous one looks in responding to it, evidently runs in the Trump family.
Seemingly unable to just brush off a joke, Donald Trump Jr. — who supposedly has his dad’s businesses to run — went after actress Jennifer Lawrence on Twitter Thursday morning.
He was responding to Lawrence having quipped about how a prospective future interaction between her and his dad would go.
While being interviewed by the famed Oprah Winfrey, Lawrence commented as follows when asked if she’d ever be interested in meeting President Trump:
‘I think so. I’ve got a pretty good speech. And it ends with a martini to the face. I have something to say for all of them. I watch different characters on the news, and I’m like, “You just wait.”‘
Lawrence is no doubt hardly the only one of this persuasion, with Trump’s approval rating staying down in the dumps, to put it lightly. Trump’s approval rating has been at a record low for a president not significantly farther into their time in office; it’s currently at about 38.5 percent.
Winfrey asked Lawrence about Trump after discussing the revelation of the crimes of longtime film icon Harvey Weinstein with her. Trump, of course, is accused of crimes similar to Weinstein, but the president has so far escaped accountability for his alleged crimes.
Lawrence wasn’t at all just talk while being interviewed by Winfrey; she told her of tentative plans to go on “campus tours” to speak to high school and college students about government corruption.
Trump Jr. felt it necessary to comment on Lawrence’s interview on Twitter this Thursday.
Retweeting and adding his own comment to a story titled; “Jennifer Lawrence: If I meet Trump, it’ll end with ‘a martini to the face”’ Trump Jr. wrote: “I’m pretty sure that’s not how it would end…”
It’s worth noting here that it’s not like President Trump is as innocent of the kind of behavior Lawrence seems open to as Trump Jr. would have you believe.
After she wrote a piece about him for Vanity Fair that he didn’t like, then-businessman Trump came up by surprise on journalist Marie Brenner and poured a glass of wine down her back while she was at an event described by Page Six as “an NYC Parks black-tie gala at Tavern on the Green.”
But yeah, Lawrence is the one in the wrong here.
Donald, for his part, has even already had a creepy obsession with a counterpart of Lawrence’s in the past, so although his ranting is confined to one tweet at present, Trump Jr. is taking the lead from his father here.
Back in 2012, when film stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were having relationship problems, Trump felt that it was somehow appropriate for him to weigh in — which he did, in a series of about a dozen tweets posted over a series of weeks.
At one point, he called Stewart a “dog.”
