Despite being investigated repeatedly and cleared of wrongdoing, the Department of Justice is opening yet another investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails. The new investigation comes due to pressure from Donald Trump, who is desperate for any sort of distraction from a number of issue plaguing him. The Russia investigation, his war with Steve Bannon, and abysmal approval numbers are all things he’d rather not talk about.
The decision to open yet another investigation into the emails of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is politics at its worst, and clearly shows how Trump is subverting American democracy to suit his own partisan needs. If the Department of Justice becomes a partisan tool with which to attack your political opponents, America is finished. The collapse of democracy into dictatorship will be complete.
Seth Abramson concisely explains via Twitter:
Yet again, our system of justice—whose independence has so long been prized—bends to the will of a madman. If you can't muster concern now for the imminent danger America is in, nothing will roust you. This case was investigated for 18 months, then closed. https://t.co/RLqdBuUL1u

From the cited Daily Beast article:
‘It’s an open question as to whether Justice Department officials would have the same level of interest in Clinton’s server without a political directive from the White House, [a] former official said.
‘Brian Fallon, formerly a spokesperson for the Justice Department and Clinton’s presidential campaign, said he suspects DOJ officials are engaging in perfunctory steps “to give Trump and his allies something to talk about and point to, and something to give Fox News to devote segments to.”
‘“I think that even that is extremely dangerous, and that the Justice Department should not be opening itself up to the perception that it is bending to political pressures from the White House,” Fallon continued. “The Justice Department is supposed to operate independently of the White House, and even if this is just a perfunctory step that they’re taking to try to appease the president, that in and of itself is an abuse of the DOJ authority.”
‘Nick Merrill, Secretary Clinton’s communications director, had this to say:
‘“As Trump begins the new year with Steve Bannon calling his campaign treasonous and indictments and guilty pleas piling up, he resorts to diversion and distraction like clockwork, with the help of his attorney general. Few matters have been more scrutinized than emails, and it was determined that there was no wrongdoing. Trump’s behavior shows a profound disrespect for the rule of law and an unprecedented abuse of power—with his attorney general following suit at every turn. It tarnishes our justice system, and should be deeply troubling to all Americans.”‘
They’re exactly right. The Department of Justice is supposed to investigate crimes. If there is already an 18-month investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server, finding that there was no criminal intent, another investigation is literally just politics to give the base something to rant about on Facebook. It’s a distraction. Hillary Clinton currently has no power, no job in the government, whereas Donald Trump’s criminal administration controls the country.
This is abuse of power, plain and simple. Trump should not be able to influence the DOJ into attacking political opponents. What’s next? Asking the IRS to audit Mueller?
