Mr. Trump was back at his favorite internet spot on Monday morning, Twitter. This time, he was spewing more of his made-up nonsense in hopes that someone still believes his lies. This time, he rattled off some crazy facts about the unemployment rate in an attempt to make himself look great again.
Notice that he uses “Fox & Friends” as a reliable source. According to ABC News, that is true but when you look at the discrepancies between unemployment rates for African-Americans and other groups versus white people, the unemployment rate is still higher due to discrimination and other disadvantages.
ABC also reported:
‘Robust job creation has lowered unemployment for all Americans. U.S. employers added nearly 2.1 million jobs in 2017 — the seventh straight year that hiring has topped 2 million. The U.S. economy gained a hefty 5.7 million jobs in 2014 and 2015 alone.
‘But there are also less-happy reasons for the lower unemployment rates: Fewer Americans are either working or looking for work. (People who aren’t actively seeking a job aren’t counted as unemployed.) An aging population means there are more retirees. Young Americans are also staying in school longer before job-hunting.’
Trump would like to have everyone believe that he deserves all the credit for low unemployment rates. However, as stated above, 5.7 million jobs were created in 2014-2015, during former President Obama’s term. Perhaps, he is the one who deserves the credit.
Twitter responded with plenty to say about Trump’s tweet:
