This Saturday is the one year anniversary of Donald Trump’s inauguration as president of the United States. For one year, he’s had the opportunity to enact his divisive agenda, leaving untold numbers of people fearful and out in the cold in the process.
Perhaps fittingly, the federal government shut down for what very well may not be the last time during Trump’s tenure, right as the anniversary of Trump’s inauguration dawned. Senators were — and remain — unable to agree on a spending bill to keep the government open. Democrats won’t move forward without protections for hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children, and Republicans won’t move forward with such protections.
In Trump’s world, however, everything and everyone is getting along just fine.
He posted to that effect on Twitter late this Saturday afternoon, highlighting the items he feels should be hailed as accomplishments of his administration.
Sure, millions of children have the future of their health care threatened because of Republicans refusing to go along with Democrats in their efforts to keep Trump from opening the doors to mass deportations, but hey, the stock market is up, right?
Trump wrote:
‘Unprecedented success for our Country, in so many ways, since the Election. Record Stock Market, Strong on Military, Crime, Borders, & ISIS, Judicial Strength & Numbers, Lowest Unemployment for Women & ALL, Massive Tax Cuts, end of Individual Mandate – and so much more. Big 2018!’
This follows the president having tweeted a message trying to mock the Women’s March with this same list of accomplishments, admonishing women to “[g]et out there now to celebrate the historic milestones and unprecedented economic success and wealth creation that has taken place over the last 12 months.”
On Saturday, a year after the president’s inauguration and subsequent global Women’s Marches, women and their allies gathered again across the nation to make their voices heard and rally around the cause of getting people to the polls.
They made it clear that they oppose the bigotry peddled by Donald Trump, a fact he can’t erase with a mockingly dismissive tweet.

Trump’s longtime adviser Kellyanne Conway dismissed criticism of the president’s treatment of the Women’s March by insisting that her boss’ tweet was just a joke.
What’s not a joke is the fact that her boss has gone from being revealed to have bragged about his dementedly supposed freedom to commit sexual assault to enact policies in line with that behavior, refusing to support women’s health care — while also, mind you, seeming not at all inclined to support financial assistance for the families of the babies he and those like him seem so desperate to see born.
But hey, the stock market is up, right? To be clear, it’s been going up since the Obama administration, and Trump can’t cling to that forever, although he seems like he’s most certainly going to try.
