Donald Trump has been desperate to change the news from a porn star suing him and Special Counsel Robert Mueller closing in on him in the Russia 2016 election meddling. The man in the Oval Office tried to turn the page with some positive news, but it did not work.

Physicians will diagnose one in 68 children (or more) with autism, so Trump declared April 2 “World Autism Awareness Day.” The statement read that people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) have made “exceptional contributions.” There was just one problem.

In spite of this declaration, the president really has a skewed conspiracy belief about autism. He blamed “inoculations” in a 2012 tweet:

‘Massive combined inoculations to small children is the cause for big increase in autism….’

The Donald must have believed that, in addition to being his own best communicator and adviser, he was also a scientist. He tweeted:

‘Lots of autism and vaccine response. Stop these massive doses immediately. Go back to single, spread out shots! What do we have to lose.’

Then, Trump blamed President Barack Obama for “doctor-inflicted autism:”

‘Autism rates through the roof–why doesn’t the Obama administration do something about doctor-inflicted autism. We lose nothing to try.’

In  2014, the future president wrote that vaccination caused autism’s “sudden onset:”

Trump insisted that should he become president, he would stop autism:

‘If I were President I would push for proper vaccinations but would not allow one time massive shots that a small child cannot take – AUTISM.’

Trump’s administration released a statement for the president commending the “exceptional contributions” people with ASD, which is definitely correct:

‘Americans with ASD make exceptional contributions across our Nation and around the world.  On this day, we honor their accomplishments and recommit to ensuring that they enjoy the same opportunities to fulfill their potential that all Americans deserve.’

The commander-in-chief’s statement continued, writing that “together we can” do many things, including “promote respect and dignity:”

‘On World Autism Awareness Day, let us renew our commitment to support the entire international ASD community, including children and adults with ASD, their families, and caregivers.  Together, we can increase access to information, encourage heightened understanding of ASD, promote respect and dignity, and support the services that assist people with ASD to reach their full potential.’

For some reason, Trump’s idea of “respect and dignity” seems disingenuous. Maybe, that was due to the time he mocked a reporter with a disability. Check that out in the video below:

Trump’s theory about the cause of ASD has been widely debunked by healthcare experts, including the Institute of Medicine (IOM):

‘Over the previous 40 years the IOM has conducted over 60 vaccine safety studies, including this comprehensive review of the immunization schedule. The IOM committee did not find any evidence of major safety concerns related to receiving on-time vaccinations according to the Recommended Immunization Schedule for children. They concluded that this should help to reassure stakeholders. Further, they noted that while the receiving on-time vaccines was not harmful, it was strongly associated with reducing vaccine-preventable diseases. ‘Screen-Shot-2018-04-02-at-12.26.36-PM1 Trump Mandates April 2 As 'World Autism Awareness Day,' There's Just One Huge Problem Conspiracy Theory Donald Trump Healthcare Politics Top Stories
