Donald Trump has always been a vindictive man who never abandons a grudge. Recently, he attacked Amazon with a barrage of ridiculous lies. Why? Jeff Bezos started Amazon, then bought The Washington Post. Trump’s campaign against Amazon has one purpose: kill the free press.
In one of his early morning tweet missiles, 45 condemned the Washington Post for being Amazon’s “chief lobbyist:”
‘The Fake News Washington Post, Amazon’s “chief lobbyist,” has another (of many) phony headlines, “Trump Defiant As China Adds Trade Penalties.” WRONG! Should read, “Trump Defiant as U.S. Adds Trade Penalties, Will End Barriers And Massive I.P. Theft.” Typically bad reporting!’
A sitting commander-in-chief has never singled out a corporation in this way. The president is supposed to improve the economy, not knock it back on its bottom line. Yet, the stock market plunged yesterday – 500 points. Then, one of Trump’s men came out to clean up the mess, and dragged the economy back up.
Trump hates one of the strongest pillars of our democracy, the free press. When the news about him is negative, he takes it as a personal affront. Then, he attacks relentlessly.
The stock market is an emotional body. When the news or information is bad, it goes down. Conversely, when the news is good, it goes up. Trump should understand this simple fact, but he has always been too emotional and the center of his own world to take notice of how his actions affect the economy long-term.
Trump’s attacks on Amazon have been without merit. Bezos is not the single owner of the company, which has brought jobs and breathed good health into a weakened economy. Amazon even increases the Post Office’s revenues by using it to deliver packages at the going rate.
Trumps actions are not bemusing. Killing off the free press is a dangerous game.
