While the chaos of the Trump administration continues to rage on, there are other developments taking place elsewhere in government. Recently, for the first time ever, a sitting member of the United States Senator became a new mother, when Democrat Tammy Duckworth from Illinois gave birth to her new daughter.

It’s remarkable that it took this long for a member of the U.S. Senate to become a new mother for the same reason that it’s striking that we haven’t had a female chief executive yet. Even still, as a sign of accommodating to the times, a resolution passed this past Wednesday to allow Senator Duckworth and any other present or future Senator to bring their young child with them into the Senate.

In the face of that development, Senator Duckworth shared an outfit of her daughter’s on Twitter this Thursday, jokingly asking if it conformed to the dress code for the nation’s upper Congressional chamber.

She wrote:

‘I may have to vote today, so Maile’s outfit is prepped. I made sure she has a jacket so she doesn’t violate the Senate floor dress code (which requires blazers). I’m not sure what the policy is on duckling onesies, but I think we’re ready.’

Ironically, a handful of GOP U.S. Senators did question the initial measure allowing Senator Duckworth’s daughter on the Senate floor in the first place, but you’d hope even still that nobody would attempt to police what her young daughter was wearing.

Senator Duckworth has been prominent for reasons other than her newborn recently, having gone after the president after he suggested that Democrats didn’t care about the military. After the president blamed Democrats for the three day government shutdown earlier this year, she took to the Senate floor to blast “Cadet Bone Spurs” for attempting to shift the blame for the maladies of his administration onto the backs of Democrats.

She pointed out in her remarks about the matter that the president was showing his own disregard for the well-being of the members of the U.S. Armed Forces through acting belligerently towards North Korea to the point of causing some people to be concerned we were heading for war.

In the time since, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has decided to go along with the president’s demands and will be meeting with him soon if all goes as planned. Trump has also proved time and time again that his commitment to the military is questionable at best through his reported private musings about the possibility of using military funds to pay for his long sought U.S./ Mexico border wall.

Senator Duckworth referred to the president as “Cadet Bone Spurs” because of his questionable usage of “bone spurs” to get out of service in the Vietnam War. She herself served as a Black Hawk helicopter pilot in the Iraq War, having sustained injuries during that time that left her without either of her legs. She joined Congress in 2013 and serves alongside Illinois Democrat Richard Durbin.
