Observe the president for any amount of time and you’ll see just how egocentric that he is. He has long established himself as the guy who in the end consults only himself, and when he only has himself to answer to, he can say anything he wants, which is what underlies his incessant lying and bigotry.
Simultaneous to this integral part of the president’s behavior, it remains treacherous to make yourself at home in his orbit. Just because at one point he says he likes you to the point of hiring you, that doesn’t mean that he’s not going to turn around and throw you under the bus, to use a familiar cliche. He’s the one who hired all of his Cabinet members who he has gone after since taking office.
One individual in such a position is the president’s longtime associate Michael Cohen. Cohen was revealed recently to be under criminal investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s office of the Southern District of New York. Recently, much to the chagrin of the president, authorities raided Cohen’s office, home, and even hotel room.
Well, if the president wanted to ensure Cohen would stay on his side in all of this mess, he should have thought of that sooner. The Wall Street Journal has a new report out that outlines the president’s relationship with Michael Cohen, and contained in it is the story of a time not that long ago when the man who is now president took to dragging Cohen through the mud at the lawyer’s own son’s bar mitzvah.
Bar mitzvahs, of course, are those occasions integral to a young Jewish male’s life when they are formally welcomed into adulthood, to put it one way. Cohen’s son had his bar mitzvah back in 2012, and apparently, he was keen on having Donald Trump attend.
In the end there was just one problem — Donald Trump answers to nobody but himself. Trump attended, but according to an attendee, he was late and the service was delayed on his account.
When he got there, he showed an extreme lack of care for what’s essentially just decency.
The Journal reports:
‘After Mr. Trump arrived, he gave a speech, telling guests he hadn’t planned to come, but he relented after Mr. Cohen had repeatedly called him, his secretary and his children begging him to appear.’
Now, how much this exact incident will weigh on the presently unfolding legal proceedings remains to be seen.
The president, however, is certainly feeling the heat of the question of whether or not his lawyer will flip and testify against him.
Last Saturday, he tweeted a message reading, in part:
‘The New York Times and a third rate reporter named Maggie Haberman… are going out of their way to destroy Michael Cohen and his relationship with me in the hope that he will “flip.”.. Most people will flip if the Government lets them out of trouble, even if it means lying or making up stories. Sorry, I don’t see Michael doing that despite the horrible Witch Hunt and the dishonest media!’
Meanwhile, legal proceedings are continuing covering topics including the massive hush money payment that Cohen dished out to adult film star Stormy Daniels on behalf of the president covering an alleged affair with him.
