As confusing as Kanye West’s devoted support for President Trump in recent days has been, it really isn’t all that difficult to see why that might be. Both are defined by their own propensity for self-promotion. While Trump has touted himself as “the greatest jobs president of all time” and West has referred to himself as “the biggest rock star on the planet.” Trump covers every building and business venture with his last name and West wrote a song called “I Am A God.” Clearly, both think quite highly of themselves and believe everyone else should, too.
Just ahead of the release of his new album, Kanye did what Kanye does, which is to find a way to get his name in the news cycle as much as humanly possible. There is no doubt he’s achieved that, although this method has equally, if not even more so, made West look like a real jerk. After all, who can forget the last big controversy Kanye caused at the MTV Awards, which he followed by writing a song called “Runaway,” which contains the lyrics:
‘Let’s have a toast for the douchebags,
Let’s have a toast for the a**holes,
Let’s have a toast for the scumbags,
Every one of them that I know
Let’s have a toast for the jerk-offs.’
It seems Kanye knows how to make himself look like an even bigger a**hole and his friend, Trump, is willing to help him out. West has been very vocal in his support of Trump lately, both in interviews and on social media, and Trump is happy to use him as a prop just as he once did a black supporter who attended a rally and who Trump interrupted a speech to point out and exclaim, “look at my African-American.”
Twitter is quite over this bromance between the world-class self promoters who work so hard to create controversy and keep their faces in the news even for the most negative of reasons and then cry foul when they’re called out for it. See some of the internet’s responses below:
