Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein Stands Up To Cowardly GOP Group’s Extortion Attempts

-

Donald Trump has sown a lot of discord and divisiveness in this nation. It’s because of him and his possible collusion with Russian benefactors that our government is in such an uproar right now. For instance there’s a group of Republican House members actively trying to put a stop to the investigation into Trump. Apparently they’ll stoop to some mighty low levels in order to give Trump a pass on his alleged wrongdoing.

The pro-Trump House Freedom Caucus’ latest dirty deed was to draft articles of impeachment against Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, then leak the draft to the press, knowing it would cause a big stir in Washington. But Rosenstein is through playing their corrupt games. ABC News reported today that “Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein vowed on Tuesday that the Justice Department “is not going to be extorted” by certain critics, and he depicted as cowards a group of Republicans who have drafted articles of impeachment against him. Rosenstein said,

‘I just don’t have anything to say about documents like that that nobody has the courage to put their name on and leak it in that way. ‘

Rosenstein is overseeing special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, and the Republicans would like to see him leave his post. With Rosenstein gone, Trump would presumably put someone else in his place who could then fire Robert Mueller effectively ending the whole Russia saga. But getting rid of Rosenstein might just be a little harder than they thought it would be, because he’s not standing for it.

Rosenstein says that he’s been threatened privately and publicly for quite a while now,

‘and I think they should understand by now the Department of Justice is not going to be extorted.’

Only time will tell how this battle will end, but it’s heartening to see someone stand up for the law and take the fight right back to the instigators. It’s time to do away with corruption in the GOP and Rosenstein is taking a big step in that direction.
