Earlier this week, the White House revealed that the first lady had been admitted to Walter Reed Medical Center for a procedure meant to address a benign kidney condition. She had an embolization performed, which cuts off blood flow to a certain area in order to address issues like tumors and malfunctioning blood vessels.
On Saturday, after days of being in the hospital, Melania Trump returned to the White House. The president marked her discharge from the hospital with a tweet — but the first time around, he did not spell her name right.
The mistake was corrected promptly but not before plenty of internet users could grab screenshots.
The corrected tweet, which went up within just a few minutes, reads:
‘Great to have our incredible First Lady back home in the White House. Melania is feeling and doing really well. Thank you for all of your prayers and best wishes!’
The gaffe is sure to fuel plenty of quips about the relationship between the president and first lady.
It’s not as though the public has perceived it to be on particularly solid ground in the recent past; one of the main recent drivers of that is the revelation that Trump lawyer Michael Cohen paid $130,000 in hush money to adult film star Stormy Daniels covering an affair between the two of them. The man who is now president carried on with that affair in the months immediately following the birth of Donald and Melania’s son, Barron.
In the time since those revelations, the president has faced legal trouble over that hush money; Daniels is suing to be free from the nondisclosure agreement associated with the hush money and has also filed a defamation claim against the president.
The president has also faced a second, separate allegation of an affair from former Playboy model Karen McDougal.
McDougal, who herself successfully managed to get free from an agreement with a Trump-allied media company buying her silence, took the striking step of apologizing to Melania during an appearance on CNN.
Considering all of this tumult, the fact that the president didn’t even manage to get his wife’s name right on the first try of a tweet marking her discharge from the hospital isn’t exactly poised to help his cause.
Melania, for her part, is doing well, according to her communications director.
Stephanie Grisham shared:
‘The first lady returned home to the White House this morning. She is resting comfortably and remains in high spirits. Our office has received thousands of calls and emails wishing Mrs. Trump well, and we thank everyone who has taken the time to reach out.’
Grisham also downplayed the significance of any media speculation about why Melania stayed in the hospital for as long as she did after a kidney procedure that normally warrants less intense care.
She added:
‘Mrs. Trump has a medical team that is comfortable with her care, which is all that matters. Her recovery and privacy are paramount and I will have no further comment beyond this. Anyone else who chooses to speak with the media will only be speculating.’
Melania is returning to the White House after having recently unveiled a “Be Best” awareness campaign meant to highlight issues plaguing childhood well-being in the United States.
