The longer Donald Trump’s presidency goes on, the more frightening it becomes. Some of us have said since he first announced his candidacy that he was a threat to the American government, others are just now beginning to realize just how dangerous he really is.
In an interview with CBS News from Scotland, Trump was asked who he considered foes of the United States. His first answer was downright stunning.
‘Well, I think we have a lot of foes. I think the European Union is a foe, what they do to us in trade. Now, you wouldn’t think of the European Union, but they’re a foe.’
Although he did eventually name Russia and China, as well, the idea that he would name the strongest and longest-lasting ally to the United States as foes first and foremost on his mind is just unreal. The president of the European Council took great exception to this, as should anyone with any minute understanding of history.
It is not only frightening, but incredibly humiliating, to watch a president attack the countries who have been most willing to come to our aid in times of crisis, such as the time following the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center after 9/11. Canada, Mexico, and the European Union have all suffered blistering attacks by the current U.S. president.
There has never been a presidency like this and, hopefully, there will never be another.
