As Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation broadens, the number of shady characters surrounding the president grows ever-increasingly  That was why it came as no surprise that Donald Trump’s former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, may have been committing another crime or crimes. This last reported one had not been reported before, though.

It appeared that federal prosecutors in the New York’s Southern District have uncovered yet another problem for the man who used to say that he would take a bullet for the president. This time, these investigators have been investigating whether or not Cohen has been committing tax fraud.

He and POTUS’ relationship suffered after the president moved to the White House in D.C. and did not take Cohen with him. Trump wrote, according to The Wall Street Journal:

‘Sounds to me like someone is trying to make up stories in order to get himself out of an unrelated jam (Taxi cabs maybe?).’

According to the Wall Street Journal, Cohen has been investigated for whether his multiple taxi-medallions business did not properly report its income on the federal tax return forms. That was not the only crime they were probing, it seemed.

The prosecutors have also been looking into whether any bank employees were complicit in allowing the president’s former self-described fixer obtain loans illegally. To do that, he would have had to obtain the loans without proper documentation.

Prosecutors are also examining if any bank employees improperly allowed Cohen to receive loans without providing sufficient proof of assets.

The federal investigators zoomed in on the Sterling National Bank. That was where Cohen got his taxi-medallion company financing.

The former Trump attorney may have inflated how much his assets were worth and then, used those inflated figures as collateral in order to obtain loans from Sterling National Bank. If so, that would be illegal.

Federal prosecutors have been going over Cohen’s loan applications with a fine-tooth comb, looking for any false statements or even any misrepresentations. At this time, the prosecutors have subpoenaed Jeffrey Getzel. He was an accountant who worked for Cohen, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Cohen has already been in substantial trouble. He was under investigation by the feds for alleged campaign finance violations and bank fraud.

Trump’s former fixer made payments to adult entertainer and producer, Stormy Daniels, on behalf of the president. The purpose of that $130,000 payment was to prevent Daniels from talking about their one-time sexual interlude prior to the 2016 election. It appears, that the man sitting in the Oval Office also had Cohen pay off more women,

Should the attorney be convicted of federal tax evasion and bank-fraud, he could face years in jail. These possible sentence would be a wedge that could be used by prosecutors to get Cohen to cooperate with them.
