Nothing, including the truth, will stop the Trump administration from pushing whatever they claim they like. Whereas in the past, the Trump team has ridden the coattails of the Obama administration’s success, now, they’re taking to actively lying about it.
Speaking Tuesday to reporters at the White House, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders lied about the number of jobs for black Americans that were created while Barack Obama was in office. Somehow, with a straight face, she stood in front of the nation and claimed that only 195,000 jobs for black workers were created throughout all eight years of the most recent president’s tenure. In reality, some 3 million new jobs for black Americans were created during Obama’s eight years.
In the first eighteen months of Donald Trump’s time in office, 700,000 new jobs for black American workers have been created.
Sanders noted as much in her Tuesday comments to reporters, apparently ready and willing to believe that her boss had, in less than two years, presided over the creation of three times as many jobs as Obama did in eight years.
She said:
‘This president since he took office, in the year and a half that he’s been here has created 700,000 new jobs for African-Americans. That’s 700,000 African-Americans that are working now that weren’t working when this president took place. When President Obama left, after eight years in office, he had only created 195,000 jobs for African-Americans.’
First of all, Trump hasn’t personally created 700,000 new jobs for black Americans. The actual job creation is the result of decisions made far down the line from the president.
That sort of rhetorical mistake isn’t the only issue, though. Sanders’ mishap wasn’t just a slip of the tongue. The White House Council of Economic Advisers apologized after Sanders made the claim for misinforming her.
Apparently, it took hours and hours for anyone in the White House to come to realize that they’d made a grave error. Sanders, who’s supposed to share truth for a living, doesn’t seem to be the one to have noticed the glaring discrepancy.
The original context for the remark doesn’t help let Sanders off the hook at all, either. She shared it while commenting on how supposedly accepting of black Americans that Donald Trump really is. The president has been accused of racism yet again, this time over allegedly using the n-word while taping his old reality show The Apprentice. Former Trump staffer Omarosa Manigault-Newman — who was on The Apprentice — claimed as much in her new memoir covering her time around Trump, Unhinged.
Trump has sought to push back against the claim.
He wrote on Twitter:
‘I don’t have that word in my vocabulary, and never have. She made it up.’
His lackey Sarah Sanders’ attempt at defending her boss doesn’t work, though. The number of jobs created in the United States while Donald Trump resides in the White House has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not he’s a racist. It just doesn’t.
Besides, there are plenty of other examples of the president peddling racism. He claimed immigration to pose a threat to Western civilization and wants to put up a wall in between the U.S. and Mexico.
Sanders, though, is lost in her web of lies.
