Donald Trump’s longtime former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, was the guy who once said that he would take a bullet for the president. Then, things went south between the president and his attorney after Special Counsel Robert Mueller raided Cohen’s home, hotel, office, and even his safe deposit box at his bank. Trump’s former attorney may have just had the last laugh.

Cohen was a Democrat until someone told him that he could not hold a position in the Republican National Committee and be a member of the other party. At that time, he switched. Now, he has decided to return back to his party of choice and campaign against Trump and the Republicans for upcoming midterm elections and the during the 2020 presidential race.

Apparently, he is prepared to do what he can to help his new party. That means helping Democrats raise money, do speeches for them, and even stump on the campaign trail.

Cohen’s public relations attorney, Lanny Davis, tweeted that Cohen coming back to the Democratic party meant his client was, according to CNN:

“Distancing himself from the values of the current (administration).’

Trump dumped Cohen when he moved to Washington D.C. and into the White House. Cohen wanted to go with him. The attorney even sent sad miss-you messages to the president. However, when Cohen realized that the president had abandoned him, the attorney finally turned to special counsel Robert Mueller.

He testified over 50 hours for the special counsel’s investigation into Russia’s attack on the U.S. 2016 presidential election and any conspiracy between the Russians and the Trump campaign. At that point, POTUS’s tweets became vicious:

‘If anyone is looking for a good lawyer, I would strongly suggest that you don’t retain the services of Michael Cohen!’

Cohen’s attorney said that he wanted to right any presidential wrongs including Trump’s host of lies. He even offered to do campaign ads. However, how that would play for the Democrats has not been clear up until this point. After all, Trump’s personal attorney did plead guilty to “eight criminal counts” last summer and he still has not been sentenced, according to CNN.

The midterms have been fast approaching, so there would be questions about how much Cohen could accomplish in that brief period of time. Not only that, the self-described fixer’s sentence means he is limited in where he can travel – New York City, Washington D.C., Florida, and Illinois.

Last July, Cohen told ABC News he had switched loyalties:

‘To be crystal clear, my wife, my daughter and my son, and this country have my first loyalty.’

The special counsel has ripped 52-year-old attorney’s life. When he worked for Trump, Cohen paid off a number of women as hush money. It would have been very bad for a porn star’s story about her sexual relationship with the president just weeks before the 2016 election.

Mueller caught the attorney in the net of his investigation for arranging a $130,000 payoff to an adult entertainer, Stormy Daniels. At first, Cohen cast himself as the fall guy. Later, he admitted he had done so at Trump’s direction.
