Latest 2020 Polls Released & Numbers Have Trump In A Tizzy

Donald Trump not only has to beat a Democratic candidate in 2020 to win reelection, but he also has to win nearly every state he won in 2016 once again to get the all-important 270 electoral college votes. That road is not going to be easy considering his upside-down approval rating and the massive numbers of Americans who say they cannot in good conscience vote for Trump in 2020 even if they voted for him in 2016.

One very important state for Trump, a state that he won by a tiny margin in 2016, is Michigan. Trump won the state by only 11,612 votes in 2016, just 0.3 percent of voters, and a significant number of them say that voting against Trump is their main priority in the upcoming presidential election. Two Democrats are leading Trump with significant leads in the polls, and three others have slight leads there.

‘A new poll shows both Democratic White House hopefuls Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders with substantial leads in matchups with President Trump in Michigan, one of the Rust Belt states key to his 2016 electoral college victory.

‘Biden, the former vice president, and Sanders, a senator from Vermont, led Trump by identical margins — 53 percent to 41 percent — among likely voters in the poll conducted for the Detroit News and the Detroit television station WDIV-TV.’

Biden and Sanders may be the frontrunners today, but it’s still relatively early in the race. A few surprises turned up in the 2020 polls, including slight leading margins by three other Democrats who continue to make inroads into 2020.

‘South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg also led Trump in a hypothetical matchup by a smaller margin of 6 percentage points. Two other Democrats — Sens. Kamala D. Harris (Calif.) and Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) had leads that were within the poll’s margin of error.’

Trump’s campaign team has already acknowledged the importance of winning in Michigan, and it doesn’t appear that they’re evaluating how Trump’s policies are affecting the state. Michigan, along with Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, are key areas for Trump to win and his approval ratings in those three states are not positive.

‘In an interview last month, Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale cited Michigan as a state key to the president’s 2020 prospects.

‘“Obviously, we have to go back and win Michigan again, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin,” Parscale told CBS News’s “Face the Nation,” referring to three states that Trump won by a combined 78,000 votes in 2016.’
