Disbarment Of Lawyers Who Represented Trump & GOP For Insurrection Proposed

Voting rights lawyer Marc Elias called for the disbarment of Trump and GOP-aligned lawyers this week after a bombshell report from Rolling Stone revealed new levels of official planning power behind the events that devolved into the Capitol riot. Specifically, the Rolling Stone report shared how Republican members of Congress were involved, either directly or through their staff members, with planning the events — particularly a Jan. 6 D.C. rally — that snowballed into the attack on the Capitol by Trump supporters. The Rolling Stone report also revealed that Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) presented rally organizers with the possibility of a so-called blanket pardon as an attempted inducement to continue their efforts, so were lawyers involved with that corrupt proposal at any stage?

Elias pointedly commented as follows:

‘Every Member of Congress who was involved should be expelled. Every staffer who was involved should be fired. Every lawyer who was involved should be disbarred.’

Besides Gosar, other Republican members of Congress reported to be connected to planning surrounding January 6 include Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga.), Lauren Boebert (Colo.), Mo Brooks (Ala.), Madison Cawthorn (N.C.), Andy Biggs (Ariz.), and Rep. Louie Gohmert (Texas). One of the rally organizers explained things pretty bluntly to Rolling Stone, saying that they “would talk to Boebert’s team, Cawthorn’s team, Gosar’s team like back to back to back to back.” The same individual said that they “remember Marjorie Taylor Greene specifically” and “remember talking to probably close to a dozen other members at one point or another or their staffs.” Did these members of Congress know about the seemingly all-but-certain impending violence ahead of January 6?

Besides direct planning for January 6, lawyers were also involved in efforts to get Biden’s election win thrown out in the courts, although none of these efforts ever got anywhere meaningful, and no court ever accepted the notion that Biden’s win was the result of fraud. The House committee investigating the riot will soon be hearing from Jeffrey Clark, a former top official at the Department of Justice who was recently subpoenaed by the panel and tried to gin up official Justice Department support for Trump’s election lies while he was still on the job. Trump even considered installing Clark as acting Attorney General, where he would have been in a position to do even more serious damage. He’s facing calls for disciplinary investigations by authorities for lawyers in D.C.
