Trump’s ‘Big Lie’ Attorneys Ordered To Pay Fine Over Election Lies

Back when Donald Trump was refusing to accept that he had lost the electoral college vote to Joe Biden in November 2020, a band of lunatic attorneys rallied behind him, and the crazier his lies became, the crazier the attorneys became. From Lin Wood, who is currently under investigation by the state bar of Georgia and being forced to undergo a mental health evaluation, to Sidney Powell, who promised to “release the kraken” of information proving the 2020 election was stolen, late in 2020 throughout the first part of 2021, Trump’s attorneys seemed to all be trying to out-crazy one another.

For all the attention it got them, those attorneys and several others will face sanctions as a result of their manipulation of the legal system for the purposes of lying and undermining the faith of the electorate in their democratic institutions. U.S. District Judge Linda Parker fined each of them $175,000.

Judge Parker wrote in her decision, according to NBC News:

‘This lawsuit represents a historic and profound abuse of the judicial process. It is one thing to take on the charge of vindicating rights associated with an allegedly fraudulent election. It is another to take on the charge of deceiving a federal court and the American people into believing that rights were infringed, without regard to whether any laws or rights were in fact violated. This is what happened here.’

The lawyers, some of whom insisted to voters that Trump would be reinstated once the information they were holding was released, or that former Vice President Mike Pence would be tried and executed for treason after refusing to stop the certification of Joe Biden as the 46th president of the United States, face not only monetary sanctions, but could potentially lose their license to practice law.

‘Parker ordered the lawyers to pay Detroit’s court costs and to undergo 12 hours of continuing legal education, including six hours on election law. She is also sending a copy of her decision to state attorney grievance commissions for investigation, possible suspension or disbarment of the lawyers.’

Wood is currently embroiled in a public fight with former Trump national security advisor Mike Flynn, who he accuses of secretly calling QAnon a hoax, but Powell has her own set of legal worries to focus on. The vote tabulating machine company who Powell insisted had stolen the election from Trump is suing her for billions of dollars.

Hill Reporter writes that:

‘Powell has been sued by Dominion Voting Systems for $1.3 billion for defamation. She made outrageous claims that the company’s voting machines improperly switched votes from Trump to Biden. In her defense, Powell claimed in March that no one should have taken her seriously when she repeatedly made those statements at various public events and during cable news appearances. She repeated that defense over the Memorial Day weekend at a QAnon conspiracy theorist rally in Texas.’
