Donald Trump is turning to increasingly desperate rhetoric in his frenzied, public push-back against the potentially looming criminal case for falsification of business records from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
As he circulates even further around the theme of implicitly — or more directly — encouraging violence, his comments remain troublingly relevant. In an all-caps post to his knock-off social media platform Truth Social early this Thursday, he explicitly pushed back on calls for his supporters to be peaceful in any demonstrations. “EVERYBODY KNOWS I’M 100% INNOCENT, INCLUDING BRAGG, BUT HE DOESN’T CARE,” Trump said. “HE IS JUST CARRYING OUT THE PLANS OF THE RADICAL LEFT LUNATICS. OUR COUNTRY IS BEING DESTROYED, AS THEY TELL US TO BE PEACEFUL!” So far, there haven’t been many actual demonstrators showing up to support Trump. Even Fox News, where the bulk of coverage obviously remains rather aligned with the conservative cause, picked up the story of demonstrators against Trump outnumbering those on his side in scenes around New York City.
Although New York obviously generally leans Democratic anyway, there haven’t been many protests elsewhere, either, outside of small groups lingering here and there and sometimes filmed. Trump’s still at it, though. He also continues falsely representing Bragg’s basic record, regurgitating the accusation that the prosecutor’s team is basically ignoring actually serious crime, a nonsensical allegation.
“WHY WON’T BRAGG DROP THIS CASE?” Trump asked into the void on Thursday. “EVERYBODY SAYS THERE IS NO CRIME HERE. I DID NOTHING WRONG! IT WAS ALL MADE UP BY A CONVICTED NUT JOB WITH ZERO CREDIBILITY, WHO HAS BEEN DISPUTED BY HIGHLY RESPECTED PROFESSIONALS AT EVERY TURN. BRAGG REFUSES TO STOP DESPITE OVERWHELMING EVIDENCE TO THE CONTRARY. HE IS A SOROS BACKED ANIMAL WHO JUST DOESN’T CARE ABOUT RIGHT OR WRONG NO MATTER HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE HURT. THIS IS NO LEGAL SYSTEM, THIS IS THE GESTAPO, THIS IS RUSSIA AND CHINA, BUT WORSE. DISGRACEFUL!”
Trump has also claimed that extremists on the Left have been allowed to commit murder and arson without “retribution,” suggesting it’s getting only increasingly difficult for the ex-president to stay anywhere close to even an approximation of, you know, reality.
