There’s a woman currently taking the internet by storm. Her name is Johari Osayi Idusuyi, and she is now known for being the woman who hilariously protested Trump on live television during a campaign event.
It all began when Idusuyi arrived at the Prairie Capital Convention Center to watch the candidate speak. However, moments after she arrived she was approached by an event organizer who asked if she would like to sit behind the candidate.
She told WICS:
“It wasn’t conniving, we didn’t sneak in there. He asked us, probably for obvious reasons, but we went, we took the opportunity, and we sat and he told us to sit in the middle and we did.”
She told Jezebel:
“I heard about [the event] the night before and I wasn’t really interested in going, but my friend Gabby Chavez said, “My family bailed out on me.” I was going to go to just see Donald Trump. It’s an opportunity to see a presidential candidate. We tried to take an unbiased stand. Maybe he’ll talk about something of substance, we thought. So I think it was just to see and if that failed, then we would have a good story.”
Then when asked how she ended up behind the candidate, she said:
“A gentleman approached us after I left the original volunteer and he said, “Would you like to sit in VIP?” and I said, “OK.” I mean, why not? I think we were chosen for obvious reasons. We are minorities and there weren’t a lot of minorities there. He also instructed us to sit in the middle, so we kind of already knew what this was.”
Then when asked about the other people who were in attendance at the rally, she remarked:
“Some a mix of educated and uneducated, everyone on the spectrum cheering for such ignorance and that’s when I was just taken a back and that’s when my energy had shifted.”
That’s when she decided her time would be better spent reading Claudia Rankine’s Citizen, which is a collection of poems about race in America. Which, at a Trump rally with hardly any minorities, is a pretty huge statement, especially when visibly showing the book for all to see behind the candidate.
When asked by some supporters to stop reading, she’s now known for this legendary reaction.
She was NOT about to stop reading.
She told WICS that she went to see Trump, a man she “already had low expectations for,” but still gave him the benefit of the doubt. However, she said:
“He was exactly what I expected him to be and his supporters are exactly what I expected them to be.”
Needless to say, her protest didn’t go unnoticed with her Vine of the protest going viral and even getting a mention on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Well done, Johari. Well done.
