There are seldom in this world politicians so smarmy and untrustworthy that you can’t believe a single word that comes out of mouth. However, Republican Senator Ted Cruz is that needle in the haystack.
When Cruz opens his mouth you, quite literally, need to pull out your phone and instantly fact check him. And, likely ten times out of ten, he can be proven wrong. He’s wrong on immigration. He’s wrong on health care. He’s wrong on marriage equality. He’s wrong on guns. He’s wrong on religious freedom. He’s wrong on tax policy. He’s wrong on national security…. You can see where this is going.
Now, Senator Cruz is wrong about the Syrian refugee crisis. He’s even going so far to offer a bill banning any refugees from coming into the nation, and stating that there should be a religious test for entrance. So much for religious freedom.
Luckily, Cruz just sat down with CNN’s Dana Bash for an interview, and she reminded him of a few things about his own family. Bash said:
“You come from a family where there was political persecution, and your family benefited from the policies of America allowing refugees in.”
When Ted Cruz, quite obviously, tried to pivot away from the question talking about how terrible Obama and Muslims are, Bash goes right back to the same line of questioning:
“What would have happened if your father, who was trying to get from Cuba to the United States, and the political leaders said, ‘Nope, we don’t think so, because who knows? Maybe you could be somebody who could, you know, commit crimes against Americans.'”
Then Cruz responds, not realizing how hypocritical he is, saying:
“See, that’s why it’s important to define what it is we’re fighting. If my father were part of a theocratic and political movement like radical Islamism that promotes murdering anyone who doesn’t share your extreme faith or forcibly converting them, then it would have made perfect sense.”
You mean like the theocracy you’re trying to start in the United States, Cruz, that you learned from your religious extremist father? Hell, you even attended a “kill the gays” rally a couple of weeks ago. You are trying to force your brand of Christianity down the throats of all Americans, despite this being a nation of total religious freedom. Meaning, there is no religious requirement to live here, but you are allowed to worship how you choose.
According to Cruz, if he gave himself the same standards of being able to live in the United States, he wouldn’t be allowed to live here himself.
Senator Ted Cruz is a smarmy, lying hypocrite. Good on CNN for calling him out to his face and then not allowing him to back away from the question. Well done!!
