Incidents with Southwest Airlines turning away or delaying the flights of Muslim passengers are popping up.
One reason for this, is that society is buying into fear peddled by Conservatives (citation: Donald Trump) after the terrorist attacks in Paris, France, even though as one passenger, Caitlin Jacobs put it, “There are a lot more terrorist acts in America that are actually committed by people who are white Christians, so I think it’s important to really keep things in perspective.”
One reported incident details pizza shop owner Maher Khalil who emigrated from Palestine 15 years ago, and yet as an American citizen he was delayed from boarding his flight because he was speaking Arabic with his friend. Even after he was allowed to board his flight, passengers became suspicious because he was carrying a white box. When asked to open it, Mr. Khalil happily complied and after opening the box, he shared the baklava he had just bought with the other passengers.
Muslim passengers at the same airport, by the same airline, were forced to miss their flight, Addicting Info reports.
On Wednesday, six men were removed after complaints from other passengers and Southwest defended their decision.
“Safety is our primary focus, and our employees are trained to make decisions to ensure that safety, and to safeguard the security of our crews and customers on every flight,” the airline said.
Southwest issued a second statement to address the situation after the backlash, according to Gawker.
“On Wednesday, Southwest Flight #126 from Chicago (Midway) to Houston (Hobby) was delayed departing the gate after several passengers refused to follow Crew instructions,” the airline said.
” Reports indicate that the situation involved seating arrangements and repeated attempts from those passengers involved to save seats and rearrange other passengers on board the aircraft. Our crews were unable to resolve the situation without delaying the flight so we re-booked the customers on a later flight that same day,” the airline concluded.
Naturally, Conservatives on Twitter are deeming the backlash to be from those who are ‘politically correct.’ On the other hand, those same people have not been profiled because they possibly are of the Christian faith, so it’s never happened to them therefore, it’s all good.
Terrorism: The use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims.
It’s not being politically correct to make a decision to not buy into fear, therefore, making it a point to not do ISIL’s bidding.
On Saturday, just as evening prayers had finished, armed protesters, with some of them wearing masks, stood outside an Irving, Texas, mosque.
According to the definition, those who stood there to intimidate worshipers are in fact, complicit in terrorism. We call them ‘domestic terrorists.’
One of the Conservative protesters said, “But I’m not going to lie. We do want to show force…”
You are 11,000 times more likely to die in an airplane accident than from a terrorist plot involving an airplane, but let’s all freak out because a Muslim passenger had the audacity to speak in his native tongue while holding baklava.
Mr. Khalil was open carrying a box of dessert while Conservatives in Texas were open carrying AR-15s.
