Dem. Sponsored Bill Treats Gun Sales Just Like Republicans Treat Abortions, And It’s GLORIOUS

Missouri State Senator Stacey Newman is one tough lady. She’s someone we here on the left should be proud of; she’s a trailblazer for women everywhere despite the adversities she faces as one of the most outspoken women in the Missouri Senate.

Now, as we reel in the wake of two mass shootings in one week, Senator Newman is taking steps in her own state to crack down on the ease with which people can buy firearms. Of course, this will never sit well with the gun loving idiots on the right, but she is really hitting them where it hurts this time — by treating gun sales and ownership just like the right treats women when they seek to exercise their rights to reproductive choice.

Senator Newman’s bill, House Bill 1397, seeks to put in place the same 3 days of waiting that women wishing to have abortions are subjected to when one wishes to purchase a gun. In addition to the waiting period itself, the bill says that a doctor must be seen by the would-be purchaser, “if such firearm purchase would increase such purchaser’s risk of experiencing an adverse physical, emotional, or other health reaction.” Now, to go for the jugular and really make pro-gun, anti-choice right-wingers blow a gasket, Senator Newman said in a statement regarding her new bill:

“If we truly insist that Missouri cares about ‘all life,’ then we must take immediate steps to address our major cities rising rates of gun violence. Since restrictive policies regarding a constitutionally protected medical procedure are the GOP’s legislative priority each year, it makes sense that their same restrictions apply to those who may commit gun violence. Our city mayors and law enforcement drastically need help in saving lives.”

Even though the bill is only a pre-file, and its debate will not take place until next year, one of Senator Newman’s GOP colleagues is already expressing his upset at the notion that people need to be forced to wait to buy a gun. Sen. Brian Munzlinger said:

“It is apples and oranges. There is no correlation between them.”

Of course, in a way, Munzlinger is right — just not in the way he thinks he is right. After all, having an abortion affects no one except the woman having that particular medical procedure, while buying a gun has the potential to affect many people. See all of the mass shooting this country experiences at the hands of people who should never be able to legally own firearms, but somehow manage to waltz into a gun show, a gun show, a pawn shop, or any number of other places and legally purchases firearms, only to go and shatter countless lives and traumatize an entire nation time and time again for Exhibit A.

But, somehow, in the twisted mind of the right-winger, it’s vaginae and uteri that should be regulated, but, on the other side of that, anyone and everyone should be able to buy and own whatever kinds of guns they want, in as great of quantity as they want, with as much ammunition as they want, no questions asked.

It’s like living in the Twilight Zone, when one really stops to think about these two things — gun regulations and abortion regulations — lined up side by side. Then again, that’s the deranged mind of the right-winger. Thank you, Senator Newman, for pointing this out for us. Hopefully, your bill becomes law.
