Republican presidential candidate, Ted Cruz, brought in the new year by talking about what he would like to destroy, followed up by a ridiculously stupid joke about President Barack Obama.
And of course, the Texas Senator did this on Fox News. It was quite a spectacle to see hosts Kimberly Guilfoyle and Eric Bolling sucking up to Donald Trump on New Year’s Eve, so much so that they missed the ball dropping in Times Square.
After the hosts fawned over the GOP front-runner, Senator Cruz was allowed to suck a little airtime out of the network to talk of what he would like to obliterate.
Ellen at Crooks and Liars reports:
“CRUZ: Happy New Year. 2016 is going to be an incredible year. 2016 is going to be the last year of the Obama presidency. 2016 is going to be the last year before Hillary retires permanently to Chappaqua. 2016 is going to be the last year that we have ObamaCare.”
“Cruz apparently thought the idea of 17 million people losing their health insurance was such happy news, he didn’t feel the need to tell anyone what will replace it.”
“CRUZ: 2016 is going to be the last year until we abolish the IRS. And 2016 is going to be the last year until we utterly destroy ISIS and defeat radical Islamic terrorism.”
“Like 1980, 2016 is going to be a very, very good year.”
“He didn’t say a single thing about what he’d create or how he’d fund such things as the military that’s going to “utterly destroy” ISIS without an IRS. Not to mention roads, bridges, airport security and Social Security. I would not be surprised if Cruz intended to privatize all of them.”
Cruz then went on to tell a story of a time in the future, January 2017, in which “a little old man” goes to the White House day after day asking for Barack Obama, but the man is told each time that Obama is no longer president.
“The little old man smiles and with a twinkle in his eye, says, ‘I know that. I just love hearing you say it!’ And the Marine promptly salutes (as did Cruz, melodramatically) and says, ‘See you tomorrow, Sir!’”
Watch courtesy of Crooks and Liars:
“2016 is going to be a very, very good year,” Cruz remarked.
Bolling weighed in to pat Cruz on that back. “Gotta love the story. That guy can tell a story,” he said.
Guilfoyle said, “That was very special and creative.”
You know what really is special? What’s ‘special’ is another attempt to repeal Obamacare and without a replacement. It’s as if making the fruitless gesture means you hate Obama more than other republicans so ‘vote for me!’
Another totally special aspect of Cruz and his colleagues is the price tag for each attempted repeal, which CBS noted in 2013, amounted to tens of millions of delicious taxpayer dollars. By that time, there were 33 votes to repeal the new law which allows affordable health care to everyone.
The Congressional Research Service said it costs $24 million to run the House for a week, so the first 33 votes cost taxpayers approximately $48 million. Now, it’s nearly two years later and Republicans have yet to present a viable replacement for Obamacare – only a plan to destroy it.
Republicans such as Ted Cruz are giddy over the idea of the eleventy thousandth attempt to repeal Obamacare, and they know President Obama would never allow millions of Americans to suddenly be without health care.
But, Cruz’s joke was ‘special and creative.’ What a happy and uplifting message from Cruz. We’re sure he’s fun at parties, too.
