Republicans are strangely quiet as a landmark nuclear deal with Tehran moved closer to implementation Monday. Actually, the silence from Conservatives is not so strange considering that the Iran peace deal will add to Obama’s lengthy list of accomplishments during his presidency.
U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry, announced that tons of enriched uranium, that could potentially be turned to use in atomic arms, were now on a ship heading from Iran to Russia, the Associated Press reported.
“One of the most significant steps Iran has taken toward fulfilling its commitments occurred today,” Kerry said Monday.
If You Only News reports:
“It isn’t only Iran’s current nuclear stockpile that has been completely negated. Their capacity to produce more material was voluntarily curbed by them sharply, when they agreed to dismantle most of their enrichment centrifuges.”
“As if that isn’t enough, Iran also agreed to re-engineer one of its functioning reactors to drastically reduce its output of plutonium, which is another material used in making high-yield nuclear weapons.”
Kerry explained that the shipment also included the remaining stock of Iranian uranium that already had been enriched to a higher level. That point is important as it’s just a technical step away from what is needed to form the fissile core of a nuclear bomb.
Republicans were bribed by Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to oppose the deal. Bibi’s history of warmongering echoes that of Republicans, so they obediently complied.
Republicans called for more sanctions, and even worse, they wanted war. However, it appears that wouldn’t have stopped what Iran had already put in motion.
“Part of the agreement involves Russia shipping Iran about 140 tons of raw, unrefined uranium in exchange for their stockpile of enriched materials. Iran will be using the raw uranium to supply low-grade fuel for its domestic nuclear power program.”
“Once the IAEA confirms that these conditions have all been met, most of the international sanctions against Iran will be lifted, freeing up approx. $100 billion in previously frozen assets and allow them to fully return to the international oil market.”
That’s it right there. We already had sanctions against Iran. A bomb has not been dropped. Lives have not been lost. We have not ventured into another needless and bloody war.
“One of the most significant steps Iran has taken toward fulfilling its commitments occurred today, when a ship departed Iran for Russia carrying over 25,000 pounds of low-enriched uranium materials,” Kerry said in a statement. “I remain so proud of our team in achieving what was truly one of our most important accomplishments of 2015 — ensuring that Iran’s nuclear program is exclusively peaceful going forward.”
Tehran was willing to make the agreement and allow atomic oversight in order to show the international community that its intentions are peaceful in exchange for desperately-needed economic relief.
We’re just wondering where Tehran Tom stands since this has been revealed. Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark) pushed the seditious letter signed by 47 Republicans to Iran leaders, after all. Then the freshman lawmaker was set to appear at an event with the National Defense Industrial Association, a lobbying and professional group for defense contractors. War is all about money.
If the powers that be in Tehran are lying, Iran will be crushed economically with impunity. It’s just that simple — and without going to war. We’re sure Conservatives will counter this great accomplishment with a genius remark like, “But Obama plays golf.”
