During an interview, Ryan Bundy, who is part of the armed anti-government group which seized Malheur the National Nature Preserve near Burns, Oregon, was asked whether the timing of the occupation intentionally coincided with President Obama’s announcement of executive action on firearms. Bunday answered,“somewhat.”
What’s really ironic is before discussing Obama’s executive actions on guns, Bundy tried to define terrorism – you know, to prove he’s not a terrorist.
Shepard Ambellas of Intellihub asked, “Do you realize that a good portion of the mainstream media has actually turned Americans against you and have even labeled you a terrorist?”
“Well they labeled us terrorists several years ago so that’s not new,” Bundy said. “You got to look at the definition of terror.”
“Define it for me. You define terror for me,” Ryan Bundy asked Ambellas.
“I guess something that scares someone,” Ambellas answered.
“Would you say that terror is extreme fear,” Ryan asked.
‘I would say the word has a heightened sense of fear,” he answered.
“Alright so extra fear. Alright so a terrorist is one that uses extreme fear to control a situation,” Bundy said. “To control a political situation or any particular situation, so that would define terrorism.”
“That’s what terrorists have done,. They have used bombs and bomb threats,” Bunday said, “n public crowds…like the Boston bombing.” “They were using extreme terror to try to control or gain position or something” he said, adding that “terrorism is extreme fear to control the situation.”

Then he went on to call the government ‘terrorists’ in order to defend the family at the center of the dispute – the father and son, both of whom have been convicted of arson.
“Dwight Hammond, he was in fear of being shot in the head. He was fearful for his life, his family’s life. He was fearful of others around him,” Bundy said. “So who has been using those tactics against him? The government has. So who are the terrorists?”
In fact, the FBI defines terrorism and domestic terrorism, a definition which is in contrast to Bundy’s. “Appear intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion,” it reads in part.
The FBI appears to be pursuing charges against the men occupying the building and the immediate area, although, we don’t know what specific charges that may be.
“The bureau has assured me that those at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge will at some point face charges,” Harney County Sheriff David Ward said. He also urged the community to distance themselves from the armed group.
To be sure, schools have closed due to the militia’s presence. So has the Bureau of Land Management. Some businesses in Burns, Oregon, have closed. Obviously, people feel ‘intimidated’ in the town.
As for Obama’s executive actions, it won’t interfere with a responsible gun owner’s right to bear arms, and firearm sales are through the roof – especially after each mass shooting.
