Ricky Gervais was hosting the 73rd annual Golden Globes last night when he took a chance to take a shot at the great American butt of jokes, Donald Trump. The walking punchline seems irresistible to comedians and wannabees alike, and with as much material as he gives them, you might imagine why.
Gervais took a clear shot at Trump’s immigration policy, i.e. if it’s brown, flush it down, and while it was wildly funny, the crowd didn’t seem too surprised by it. The room full of mostly White people, who may or may not back Trump, were entertained by the quip about Donald Trump wanting to deport American Ferrera and Eva Longoria.
Gervais said this while introducing the actresses to the stage to announce an award:
‘Eva Longoria and America Ferrera aren’t just beautiful, talented actresses. They’re also two people who your future president, Donald Trump, can’t wait to deport.’
Once the actresses took the stage, they began their own play on racist humor. Basically saying “we don’t all look alike,” the actresses began by introducing themselves and then stating that they are not other medium-complected actresses like Charro, Rosario Dawson, Ava Mendez, etc. You know, just in case the audience had confused them with someone else.
This was also poking fun at the Golden Globes themselves, who had confused American Ferrera and Gina Rodriguez in the past. I mean honestly, do you see these supposed film buffs confusing White actors and actresses? Um, no. It was all in good fun though, as the actresses laughed off the inappropriate humor and went on to name the nominees for best actor in a TV series/Drama.
The whole thing was a big F*CK YOU to Hollywood elite, and White elite in general.
