Donald Trump thinks it was appropriate for half-term Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin to blame President Obama for her son Track punching his girlfriend in the face, then kicking her while she lay in a fetal position.
Never mind that Track Palin served in the military under George W. Bush’s administration, Palin blamed Obama for his PTSD. Also, Track never saw combat action but that doesn’t lessen the impact of war on our troops.
On CNN, host Don Lemon asked Donald Trump if he asked Palin to talk about her son’s arrest during the rally.
“I told her it would be absolutely fine. I thought it would be appropriate,” Trump said.
“There was tremendous press, and I think it’s something that’s very important to discuss, not even for her son, but for so many other sons and daughters coming back from the Middle East, where they have traumatic problems,” he continued to say. “They have tremendous problems. And I told her — I actually suggested it — I said I think it would be a great forum. And I know she started the dialogue. I think it’s a very important dialogue.”
“Do you think it’s fair to link the President with her son’s issues?,” Lemon asked, as tagged by Talking Points Memo.
“Oh, I think so,” Trump said. “Look, you know, everything starts at the top. He’s the president.”
That’s what Sarah Palin said at the time. “It starts at the top’ but it’s important to note who was at ‘the top’ when Track served overseas and it was not Obama, but whatever.
Trump then pointed to Obama as being responsible for the “horrible” care veterans receive in the United States.
“One of the many things I’m going to do is I’m going to straighten that mess out. You take a look at the Phoenix Veterans Administration in Phoenix, Arizona. It’s a disgrace. It’s a cesspool. It’s dishonest. It’s corrupt in every way. it’s incompetent,” Trump said. “And you have to say ultimately, it’s the president’s charge, it’s the president’s responsibility. He has to make sure that Veterans Administration works, and it doesn’t. Our vets are being treated horribly.”
Of course, Trump would send more kids to war whereas Obama is trying to avoid another bloody and costly war. To honor America’s veterans, we need to stop initiating endless wars.
