A Good Samaritan was shot and killed in North Carolina by a man he tried to help during the massive snowstorm pummeling the East Coast.

Marvin Jacob Lee’s car spun out of control on an icy, snow-covered road in Bandys at around 5:20 p.m. Friday, Catawba County Sheriff Roy Reid told the Charlotte Observer.

The victim was identified as Jefferson Heavner, 26,  from Newton, N.C.

Heavener, who was in a passing truck, stopped to assist Leee. Nearby neighbors rushed out of their homes to help, too, after hearing the screeching sound of tires on the ice. But Lee became belligerent so the Samaritans decided to place a call to the police to come help him. “They thought he was drunk or on dope and said ‘let’s just call the law and let them deal with it,’ ” Reid said.

When the neighbors tried to call the police, Lee took out an automatic pistol and started shooting. The Samaritans ran but a bullet struck the victim, who fell.

At that point, Lee walked to the man, stood over him and shot him “numerous times,” Reid said.

“They saw he was passed out,” Reid told the Observer.

Jesse Danielle Heaver wrote about her brother on social media, recalling the times the siblings and their father used to pull cars out of ditches in bad weather.

“I’d thought of you several times today while driving the roads of Asheville and seeing cars in ditches, thinking of old times with daddy,” she wrote.

“Aside from off-roading in the snow that was always our favorite part.Never in a million years would I have dreamed that ironically you were lying cold, gunned by a murderer who you had just attempted to help like we always did,” she added.

According to the victim’s Facebook account, he leaves behind at least one  young son.
