The ongoing tension between Fox New host Megyn Kelly, and 2016 presidential candidate Donald Trump is nothing new if you haven’t been living under a rock for the past five months.
This past Tuesday, Donald Trump declared that he would not be participating in Thursday’s GOP debate due to the fact that he “doesn’t like” debate moderator Megyn Kelly. Wow, poor Donald. Imagine if the rest of us grown ups didn’t have to go to work because we disliked someone? How’s that for a man who wants to run the country?
Since Trump made the claim, Kelly has been subjected to extremely abusive verbal attacks online by Trump supporters. But is it really surprising? If they’re dumb enough to support Trump, they probably don’t even know what the word misogyny means. I’m surprised they can even write to type the comments in the first place! That being said, there’s no excuse for this kind of outright sexist abuse.
Voactiv examined over 80,000 tweets sent to Kelly’s Twitter handle on Tuesday all the way until Wednesday morning. They also looked at 1,200 comments from her Facebook page posted over the past month. The results were disgusting:
People even demanded she be removed as a moderator from the debate, simply for doing her job. If you recall, back in August of 2015 Kelly called out Trump for previous misogynistic comments he’d made in the media. Trump responded by declaring that Kelly had only asked him these question because she was on her period.
Clearly, this is an issue good old-fashioned sexism. And it’s absolutely deplorable, especially from someone running for President of the United States.
If Kelly had been a man questioning Trump, under the exact same format, he would have without a doubt reacted differently. But of course it’s Trump, so he probably still would have reacted like an immature toddler outraged by the fact that someone actually opposed his utter dog sh*t of an opinion. But he wouldn’t have personally attacked a man, blaming a biological bodily function as the reason for posing a question.
Clearly Trump and his little minions need to open their eyes and learn that this is not how we treat women in the 21st century. Or ever. There is no excuse for gender-based violence. Ever.
