In this current election, Donald Trump has become known for breaking down barriers. Not good barriers, necessarily, but barriers nonetheless. For example, he is the first modern Presidential candidate to drop an F-bomb during a stump speech, and he is, as far as we know, the first Presidential candidate to claim he could shoot someone and not lose votes for it. He is also currently in the lead, not just in the Republican polls, but in the race to see who can be the most racist, sexist, xenophobic bully on the block.
Trump is about to break down another barrier tonight — the first phone-in interview on Stephen Colbert’s “The Late Show.” This first is not quite as intriguing as his complete disregard for presidential decorum, but it is noteworthy nonetheless. Trump took to Twitter to make his big announcement: “Will be interviewed by @StephenAtHome tonight by phone- a late show first @CBS @colbertlateshow. Enjoy!”

Trump also appropriately tagged the tweet with #Colbert and #LSSC. The man is nothing if not social media savvy, and he’s definitely proven in the past that he knows how to use Twitter.
This might be “The Late Show’s” first interview by phone, but Donald Trump has been interviewed by Colbert before. In that last interview, Colbert didn’t pummel Trump with the ferocity that we would have liked, but he did point out that he reminds him a lot of the ultra-conservative character he played on Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report.”
We’re not sure how we feel about Trump being the first person to be interviewed by phone for “The Late Show”. The problem with Trump is that, while we hate him, we are also intrigued by him, too intrigued to not tune in to “The Late Show”. Regardless of whether we just want to see Colbert verbally slaughter him or are generally curious about what they have to say, the point is, we keep giving him attention. With all this attention inflating his ego to unforeseeable levels, it’s no wonder the man keeps saying and doing ridiculous things. We encourage him!
Will tonight’s interview be anything like Trump and Colbert’s previous encounters? Will there be another round of Trump or Colbert? We’ll just have to tune in to see.
